Supplying affordable Asian specialty imported food and supplies has always been Main Oriental Market's mission since it was founded in 2005. The founders, Bruce and Kao Shoua Yang, arrived to the United states at age 13 as refugees of the Vietnam War. They grew up on less than a dollar a day which didn't always provide a meal for the whole family. Their dream was always to open a market that would provide affordable staple ingredients in Asian cuisine that families of all income levels could afford.

Bruce and Kao eventually took over a small 1,500 square foot Asian grocery store on Main Street that was on the verge of going under. They quickly made good relationships with new suppliers and got the store back on its feet and decided to rename it "Main Oriental Market". The store outgrew its location within a few years and had to move to a larger building.

Today, our store is the largest Asian grocery store in Green Bay and the Fox cities with a massive 10,000 square foot area. We have also expanded our suppliers from 2 to a total of 4 different national trade companies. Due to the availability of multiple suppliers, it has allowed us to keep our prices at a low margin for our customers while also profiting.

Expanding our suppliers has also allowed us to expand our departments. Main Oriental Market started with a small selection of produce, sauces, rice and noodles, but it has now quadrupled in departments. The new departments include homegoods, a hot deli and eat-in area, fruits, bamboo, smoked meats, candy, sushi ingredients, frozen seafood, frozen foods, and a baked good selection. The products come from country specific regions in Asia such as Taiwan, Philippines, Thailand, Korea, Japan, Laos, and China.

A family-owned business, now in it's transition to the second generation, we have always contributed back to the community as best we can. We have several made contributions to the Hmong Center of Green Bay and to several small businesses. All which allowed us to be award winning recipients with the Hmong community and the Green Bay Chamber of Commerce. We are now working with the city to create the city's first Food Policy Council to ensure the voices and needs of minorities and marginalized families in the grocery business are heard and met with solution.
